Well, the parties are now over – we had a blast in New York and London and now we are proud to say that Out There no. 2 – The Beauty issue is now on sale across the world. For those of you who don't know (why not?) Out There is THE biannual gay glossy magazine covering 'International Homoculture, Voices, Style and Travel' over 212 pages.
Where our inaugural issue explored 'Freedom', this one explores Beauty. With essays on the beauty of 3rd sex, the attraction of older men, the pressures faced by gay men to look beautiful even into middle age and a in-depth interview with cover star Joey Arias on his life long dedication to the pursuit and celebration of unconventional beauty.
An extended 'Spotlight' section profiles gay cultural practitioners, artists, performers, film makers including David Hoyle, Travis Matthews, Sam Scott Schiavo, La JohnJoseph Bibby, Mu Xi and many others.
At the heart of this issue is a developed Style section with over 40 pages of fashion, grooming, fashion columnists and profiles of menswear designers. The main (and gratuitous, if we may say so ourselves) 14-page fashion story by our new Fashion Director David Hawkins explores the current trend for Soviet inspired winter collections from the likes of Lou Dalton, Omar Kashora and B-Store.
Features include an in depth look at the state of Gay Literature and pay tribute to LGBT seniors with a profile of members of NY's SAGE.
Having focussed on NYC in Issue 1, we now turn to our very own London with contributions from contemporary gay cultural practitioners such as 'Little Joe' on the history of London's Queer cinema and Jonny Woo on the alternative East London club scene. And a look back into the secret history of Gay Soho by Robin Whitmore.
We've also developed our travel section to bring you a world a gay travel, to inspire your next big trip.
There's just so much we wanted to tell you about, but we only have 212 pages (and that's already more than last time!). We hope you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed putting it together – and that it was worth the wait.
So go out, pick it up from a store - we're on news-stands and gay retail across the world this week. Otherwise, you can subscribe online... it'll make great reading over the holidays, promise.
Seasons Greetings from all of us at Out There magazine xxx
